Why are people so mean?

Ok, I'm just a bit peeved at a certain furson right now. This resulted from his posting replies in my LJ, which at first started off being ok, but then delved into an area I'd rather avoid. Here is a link to the thread from the beginning.

I think this was totally uncalled for. I'm not going to say anything else, but yes, I am pissed right now at this person. So much for their beliefs... seems like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

I am a firm believer that everyone has a right to their own beliefs. What I don't agree with is someone pushing their beliefs on others without permission....As the old saying goes...opinions are like assholes...everyone has one.

There are other bible passages I choose to follow

For those that are sinless shall cast first stone

and

God made man in his own image....so by that passage, God is a gay furry :)

I was put here for a reason to be the way I am.

It keeps amazing me how much we seem to think alike. I too try to live by those beliefs. It just amazes me when those who claim they are "religious" act like the total opposite of what they are supposed to be. I just don't get it. I'm of the firm belief that each individual's personal choice of religion or lack thereof is perfectly acceptable. Just don't force it on me or anyone else. Then the claws will come out.

Hmmm, now you've got me thinking... wonder what species God would be? Knowing my luck, he's a lion... but don't let Rama hear me say that! *grins*

IMHO this person is not so much mean as he is a little bit messed up.
People who feel compelled to shove their respective spiritual paths down

Ok. This has gone far enough. I don't know how to check people's web identity, but it was sure a strange coincidence that this email appeared in my inbox today, after posting my last reply to your LJ posts in my own LJ. If you are not the person who sent the email, then I apologize. If you are and are now lying to me, I cannot help you. I don't know what to believe anymore, as I do recall a similar situation happening last year in a very similar fashion after you had replied to some of my LJ posts. So let's just drop this here and now and go on to more nicer things.

I tend to agree with you. Though I have met a few born again christians who are good people. Sadly, the ones who try to push their beliefs on others tend to far outnumber the good ones. But anyway, let us please let this thread drop now, for everyone's sake. Thanks.

The person seems to have a real chip on his shoulder regarding religious beliefs. Perhaps he needs to spend a bit more time practicing what he's preaching. I also think that perhaps this person might be emotionally immature (or else why send and e-mail like that, so very different from his adult sounding posts in your journal) and may be broadcasting his personal dissatisfaction onto you.

You know that I'm pagan, but you also know that one of my key beliefs is in tolerance. This person has none. Don't waste the time of being angry with him; you only feed his justification and waste precious energy that could be directed elsewhere.

It has now become clear that the person who did send the email was in fact someone else... and I have just sent a public apology to my LJ.

I too believe as you, in tolerance, for everyone and for their belief's. I am searching for my own spirituality constantly... and I welcome any help on the search. I would really like to talk with you at length sometime about this subject.

Some folks need to figure out that advice should be offered when asked for, but that does not make a binding contract for the advised one to take said advice.
