**hug** It can happen, for so many reasons. Fatigue's sort of a good catch-all, whether that point's reached mentally or physically (not to say the former is independent of biochemical reality =:). All you can do is recognise it's happening, I feel, and try not to let it interfere too much, though that's obviously much more easily said than done.
Positive "distractions" - keeping busy, hobbies, socialising - are very good options, but often in short supply at the times they're most needed, let alone the inclination to engage in them, or even, sometimes, the ability to derive comfort from them. But the imperative remains - of the choices of sinking or swimming, only one offers the option of things getting better.
