What happened to FurAffinity.net? It's some under development portal page now.

That would be a parked page, hon. Saw that this morning and wondered what the yiff that was about.

It's actually back up now.

[identity profile] stripedpony.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
not for me, I just looked

[identity profile] catwoman69y2k.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I refreshed and cleaned my cache....still getting this parked page.

If you go to http://www.furaffinity.info you can access the site. HOwever if you click on anything outside the front page, it will direct to the parked page again.

Nope, still down, same weird search page

[identity profile] stripedpony.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
hacked again perhaps?

[identity profile] foxish.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The domain was transferred between two hosts earlier today. In some areas, the DNS caches may be stale and pointing to the wrong host.

Simply wait a few hours and it'll work itself out. Fur Affinity's up and running as we speak.

[identity profile] cal-foxx.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't even know what a DNS is.... so this is all greek to me.

[identity profile] foxish.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Basically, they've changed who controls the furaffinity.net domain. Because some portions of the Internet store this information to make certain functions faster, you'll continue to be sent to the wrong place. Eventually this cached data expires, and then all will be well.

[identity profile] cortezopossum.livejournal.com 2007-10-26 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
The internet really doesn't know how to handle names like 'www.furaffinity.net' -- instead it uses IP addresses. (sets of 4 numbers like this: 34.25.126.32) All computers on the internet are assigned different IP addresses.

If that's true then how can someone get somewhere by typing in 'www.google.com'? or another 'named address' like that? Well, that's what DNS is for.

DNS (Domain Name Servers) essentially work like an 'internet phone book'. Most internet service providers have their own local copies of this 'phone book'.

So when you tell your computer to look for 'www.furaffinity.net' it'll give that name to the DNS and the DNS will respond with an IP address.

When changes occur it sometimes takes a while for a DNS to get a new copy of the phone book.

(Note: if you knew for sure FurAffinity's IP address was '34.25.126.32' you could actually type in: 'http://34.25.126.32' and it'll work too.)

[identity profile] foxish.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and the use of furaffinity.info isn't recommended, as it can throw off the cookies used to validate your login, and can wreak some degree of havoc internally.

Big surprise...Network solutions.

Just had to deal with them for work because we moved our DNS to them so it would be easy for us to administer. Stupid thing was, they took over the DNS duites from our old provider before they actually published our DNS settings, which were put in not one minute latter, so we had a few hours where we had this same issue.

[identity profile] foxish.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I never have any issue with them, and I deal with them nearly daily.

Then again, we're a wholesaler for them, so we proooobably get better handling than most.

I don't know what you're talking about Butterscotch, it works fine for me.

Susan, you left something that looks important by the sink in the downstairs bathroom. Is that your only one? Do you want to arrange a meetup to transfer it to you?

[identity profile] cal-foxx.livejournal.com 2007-10-27 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
If you are refering to the yellow container, no, not needed. They haven't fit for months. However, in that tote of papers bt Specky's comp, there is a postcard on top for a company in MN. Can you give us the info on it please? Celadon is being a royal bitch about us getting time off for MFF, and we may have to leave them, and that was a good sounding offer with the other place.
