Two words....
Oct. 15th, 2004 10:12 pmDetroit sucks. Period.
I'm sorry if any of you live there... I don't know how you can stand it. I had to deliver a load in Pontiac, Michigan today, and my route took me up I-75 from Toledo, OH through Detroit. It was raining too, so that didn't help. I had to go 84 miles in Michigan... and it took me two freaking hours to get there. Traffic was backed up near the bridge into Canada for some reason. And talk about pot holes... I thought for a minute I was back in Chicago. I hit one so hard, it knocked the wires off two of my trailer lights, and I thought I'd blow out my left steer tire in the process.
Well, I got unloaded ok, but when I got back on I-75 to go back to Ohio, I was told on the CB there was a truck rolled over at the mile 41, and the southbound lanes were totally blocked. So I detoured on I-676, only to find another accident ahead of me. So then I got on US-24.... once again, an accident and road construction out the yingyang. Took me 3 1/2 hours to go the 84 miles. Then, once I got near Toledo again, saw another accident on northbound I-280. WTF?!
I guess people just don't know how to deal with rain and wet pavements. Slow down if you can't handle driving full speed... but not in the middle or left hand lanes, people!!!!! Use the right lane for what it's for... SLOWER TRAFFIC. Don't jump in from of a semi and then hit your brakes either... you ever see what a semi does in the rain when he has to slam on his brakes??? Well, the accidents I saw were the results of this. I swear.... most people don't know how to drive at all. When it's raining, TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS!!!!!! I think half the cars I saw today didn't have them on. I thought it was a federal law that you had to have them on when it's raining? If not, it should be. And people, one more thing.... TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT OPTIONAL!!!!! We can't read your minds.... and I wonder at times if some people have minds.
Ok... enough ranting for now. I'm heading back east tomorrow morning to Wheatland PA to get a load, and then am off to Santa Fe Springs CA on next Thursday. I'll be heading west on I-80 through Nebraska, then down through Denver to I-70, and then west and down I-15. So... if I can, I'll be on the road west tomorrow afternoon.
