More power!!!!! Hmmmm, maybe not such a good idea?

Anyone who knows me fairly well knows of my love for antique farm tractors and equipment... well, I was perusing YouTube earlier for videos of tractors to show Spectra and found a few nice ones. Also, I found something that I hadn't seen in quite a while... Super Modified Tractor Pulling. Here is a representative video, which I believe was shot in Germany or Denmark. Let me know what you think.

And this video below shows what happens when one of these monster tractors blows an engine under power. I have seen this happen once, but not as bad as this one.

Uh hon, those WERE four jet engines, right?

Ouch...

It is /never/ good when you can look at an engine from the side and see the crankshaft, along with mangled pistons and rods.

And were those jet engines on some of those tractors? Last time I saw this kind of stuff on TV, there weren't any of those being used at all. o.o

I know they make a lot of power. There just seems to be something wrong with turbine tractors.
I mean, how fast does the P.T.O. spin? (Just kidding)
Good ventilated block on the second one.

The announcer in the first video's speaking German, so I suppose it was shot in Germany, yes. :) Outside of that, I've got to say it seems just as pointless as all tractor-pulling to me; I never understood what people find interesting about it, but to each their own. :)

Oooh. What a mess!

My tech instructor (who was cajun) used to tell us about that.
"Ah Garruuntee..when that connecting rod comes thru the side 'o thet engine an slaps you up side the head...it'll make a believer outta ya."

All those engines are on the bleeding edge of self desctruction and sometimes they do! (as the film shows)

(famous last words: "this can't be good...")

Glad no one got hurt anyway. :)

Hooo-weeee! That sucker is gonna have some kinda repair bill!
That thing flat came unglued. The whole side of the engine was gone...

Woot! Brings back a few good memories of the unmodified tractor pull at the Indiana State fair. I'm glad to see that the delightful ridiculousness of it all is still building.

The engine failure reminds me of what it's like when a turbomolecular pump for a vacuum system fails.

Hmm, I've got a lot of pics of some Porsche tractors up at Cal Turner's farm and from Hershey. I'll have to send 'em to you.
